Song Dynasty master painter Guo Xi asked ‘In what does a gentleman’s love of a landscape consist?’ over a thousand years ago. Though Guo Xi, later generations have given landscapes a new status, they appreciate, live within and tour the silent landscapes, which has fascinated artists over the years. Landscape is also a subject held closely to artist Lin Chin-Tao’s heart, and is one of the main subjects of this exhibition. 

Under the influence of globalisation, Lin Chin-Tao’s ink works go back to the simplicity of ‘travelling’ and ‘feeling’, which are nevertheless poetic. The audience could sense the mysterious origins of nature from Lin’s latest paintings, its magnificence reflects the divinity of the subject, and the bondless visionary of the artist and the subject of landscape painting. We sincerely invite you to DaGuan Gallery to experience the bondless world of Lin Chin-Tao and perhaps find some answers to Guo Xi’s question. This volume accompanies Lin Chin-Tao’s 2018 solo exhibition, featuring a selection of outstanding works from the show along with critical essays.
