Qian Yi-Shi (b.1977, Shanghai) is a curator at the Shanghai Museum, where he also serves as Head of the Traditional Copying Department for Ancient Calligraphy and Painting, and a lecturer in cultural relics conservation at the Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts. Active across art circles on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, he has continued to create with a refined brush technique, opening new realms in ink painting that embody the very spirit of calligraphy and painting. In the past five years, he has held several well-received exhibitions at the Zhu Qizhan Art Museum, Duoyunxuan Art Museum, Xi Zhi Tang Gallery, and Qianhe Art Space.

Qian Yi-Shi’s works often center on the theme of the immortal realm, presenting the idealized landscapes cherished by traditional literati. Drawing on the compositional styles of Song dynasty painting, his landscapes are grand and imposing, evoking environments both inhabitable and traversable. Within these Song-style outlines, he applies the brush and ink techniques of the Ming masters to imbue mountains and rocks with texture and vitality. This synthesis creates landscapes that combine the contours of real scenery with artistic expressiveness, guiding viewers into the enchanting wonderlands long pursued by the ancients.
