07 Oct Literati Gathering
The inaugural exhibition of Daguan Gallery, titled Literati Gathering, will be held from October 16 (Sunday) to November 13 (Sunday) at its newly opened space in Dazhi.
Renowned art historian Professor Kuiyi Shen, Director of the Chinese Studies Program at the University of California, San Diego, has been specially invited to curate this exhibition. He traces the historical development of Chinese painting from the Ming and Qing dynasties to the present day. Masterpieces by artists such as Dong Qichang, Lan Ying, and Chen Hongshou of the Ming dynasty; Wang Yuanqi of the Qing orthodox school; Li Fangying of the “Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou”; Zhu Cheng, Ren Xiong, and Ren Yi of the early Shanghai School; as well as modern artists like Pu Xinyu, Huang Junbi, and his student Chiang Chao-shen will be showcased together, engaging in a silent dialogue across time through their works.
In addition to this visual feast, a panel discussion will be held on October 16, featuring scholars Shih Yun-wen, Kuiyi Shen, and Tsai Yao-ching. Together, they will delve into the refined and profound aesthetics of the literati tradition.
