26 Aug A Vista in Blue – Li Tingting Solo Exhibition
“A Vista in Blue” records the journey artist Li Tingting went through from painting objects to landscapes, and the paintings articulate her mastery techniques in the handling of ink and colours. The blueness in the paintings is of the colour of the sky, the air that one breaths, and the shade of eternal youth which one losses oneself in.
Having graduated from Shanxi Normal University and Renmin University of China respectively with a bachelor and a masters degree, Li’s works are filled with superior techniques and contemporary elements and have been exhibited extensively – in the US, France, Germany and Korea, just to mention a few. Her works are among the collection of major museums and galleries such as Today Art Museum, Shan Art Foundation and the White Rabbit Gallery.
Li Tingting has had many important large scale exhibitions in the recent years, including “Time: Li Tingting’s New Works” in Liu Haisu Art Museum, “Boundless: Ongoing – Chinese Ink Art” in Art Museum of Sichuan Fine Art Institute, “Control+Shift+S III” in Li Keran Academy of Painting and “The Tale of Six Cities” in Shandong Art Museum.
Professor Kuiyi Shen from the University of California San Diego who specialises in Asian Art History, Theory and Criticism states that Li Tingting’s “interpretation of ink and its value is unique in her own way”. One may see her mature techniques in the handling of ink as a medium in the works exhibited in her first solo exhibition in Taiwan.
Professor Xia Kejun from the School of Liberal Arts in Renmin University of China who is also a renowned curator points out that despite the apparent traditional nature of Li Tingting’s still-lifes, they do not exist in the traditional sense when the painter simply copies its forms. One does not study from the outside to the heart, nor from the top to the bottom when observing the world; but experience the surroundings face to face, as if these objects were within an arm’s reach.
Among Li Tingting’s latest landscape paintings, some are produced as installations to bring the audience closer to the works. Li extends her ready-made paintings and combines new elements with the works, in the manner of a lady’s toilette box that can be treasured.
The artist takes the element “time” into consideration when creating the works for the paintings included in the exhibition “A Vista in Blue”, and one may sense the artist’s progressing concepts from still-lifes to landscapes. The landscapes on display can be seen as a large scale work with “continuous composition”, they are individuals that are closely connected, waving a sense of time and space onto paper.
“A Vista in Blue” will open to the public on Saturday 25th August 2018. Daguan Gallery sincerely invite you to join the artist Li Tingting, Professor Lin Chi-Ming from the Department of Arts and Design in National Taipei University of Education and
Vanessa Kuo, Director of Daguan Gallery to a talk specially held for the opening of the exhibition, to discuss Li Tingting’s blue world.
