The period from the end of the Qing Dynasty to the beginning of the Republic of China was a key transitional point for Chinese paintings. Talented artists marked their names in the Chinese history of art with works that combine traditional and modern elements during this turbulent era. The Four Ren masters – Ren Xiong, Ren Xun, Ren Yi and Ren Yu are known for their exquisite paintings and their works are considered as the finest from the period. The Ren Masters’ art made an incredible impact on the Shanghai School at the time, and continue to inspire artists and scholars today.
